What is SDE?

SDE means Software Development Engineer, a junior engineer who builds & develops software and write codes.

When you graduate with a bachelor's degree, you usually land an SDE-I position in a product-based company.  If you have 2-3 years of experience in another company, you will be considered primarily for SDE I.

SDE II stands for Software Development 2.  Some companies refer to it as Senior Software Engineer.  While in some places, it is referred to as Senior Member Technical Staff.

SDE3 is an acronym that stands for Software Development Engineer 3.  In some companies, it also serves as an individual contributor and has the level of IC3.  In some companies, it is also referred to as Technical Lead.
